Responsible for designing pages, writing headlines, editing copy from all desks for both web and print. In addition to those duties I write a monthly column for the News’ Sunday opinion page and contribute to the News’ Bee weekly entertainment section.

Manage a staff of more than 60 employees, producing a newspaper with a daily circulation of 10,000, its web site (average daily unique visitors: 2,700) and smart phone application. Make final decisions for all content. Hire and train all editors on the newsroom staff. Supervise a payroll budget of $51,300 for the current semester, an increase from $42,200 in the previous semester.
Successful initiatives:
Updated and implemented staff handbook. Revised the structure of the payroll system, improving accuracy.
Created a continuity book for successor. Revamped recruiting and increased staff size 15 percent.
Coordinated newspaper redesign. Overseeing redesign of web site.
Desk Editor May 2009 – May 2010
Managed staff of 10 reporters and freelancers, for News, Campus and Edge & Features desks, generating story ideas and handling reader relations. Established several beats and columns. Coordinated with design editors, photographers and writers on story packages.
Senior Staff Writer August 2008 – December 2010
Wrote enterprise and news stories. Served as the beat reporter for the student union and wrote weekly food and opinion columns. Hosted “Meal in a Minute,” a video cooking webcast. Shot video to package with stories.
