Journalism will always exist in some format. Whether that includes the typical print mediums remains to be seen. However, quality writing and reporting will still play key roles in our society. From what I have observed through my mass communication classes at K-State, I can readily tell you it is important that every person who describes their self as a journalist will need to be prepared to adapt with the times or get left behind.
The Internet has changed the way we communicate, relay information and even tell stories. A report or feature story, which once was the primary focus of a journalist, is now merely a small fragment of an overall conversation being had on the Internet. Journalists are being asked to not only report on stories, but now find other ways to communicate and reach audiences. They are turning to other mediums of communication such as the web, but are also being asked to lead discussions through blogs and social media.
This is a practical skill that can only be learned through practice. I hope that through this blog readers can really peer into what goes on in the typical life of a collegiate journalist such as myself.
